Materials

Red Heart 4 ply worsted weight yarn colors Black, White, Bright Yellow, and Vibrant Orange

Apple Barrel Acrylic paint, colors Black and pineapple

Miniwax fast-drying clear satin Polyurethane

One med. point black permanent marker

One 3/4 inch plastic ring

Thin artist paintbrush

One 1&3/4 inch foam paintbrush

Size G crochet hook

Instructions

With lt. white yarn ch 4.

Rnd 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 2 and turn.

Rnd 2: 2hdc in each st, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in last st, ch 2 and turn.

Rnd 3: 2 hdc in 1st st, hdc in each st across, 2 hdc in last st, ch 2 and turn.

Rnd 4: hdc in each st across, ch 2 and turn.

Rnd 5: repeat rnd 3, fasten off.

Rnd 6: attach vibrant orange yarn to 1st st, ch 2, hdc in each st across, ch 2 and turn.

Rnd 7: 2 hdc in 1st st, hdc in each st across, 2 hdc in last st, ch 2 and turn.

Rnds 8: hdc in each st across, ch 2 and turn.

Rnds 9 thru 22: continue alternating rnds 7 and 8.

Rnds 23 thru 25: repeat rns 7, at end of rnd 25 only ch 1 and turn.

Rnd 26: sc in 1st 6 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, dc across to last 10 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, sc in remaining 6 sts, fasten off.

Rnd 27: attach vibrant orange yarn to 1st st, ch 2, hdc in each st across, ch 2 and turn.

Rnds 17 and 18: 2 hdc in 1st st, hdc in each st across, 2 hdc in last st, ch 2 and turn.

Rnds 28 and 29: repeat rnd 7.

Rnd 30: repeat rnd 8.

Rnds 31 and 32: repeat rnd 7, at end of rnd 32 only ch 1 and turn.

Rnd 33: sc in 1st 6 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, dc across to last 10 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, sc in remaining 6 sts, fasten off.

Attach black yarn anywhere on edge of head, work sc reverse st around edge of head, fasten off, weave in ends.

Sc Reverse St... Working left to right, insert hook in next stitch to the right, yarn over, draw yarn through stitch, yarn over, draw yarn through 2 loops on hook.

Finishing

With permanent marker lightly sketch facial features onto candy corn. See picture below

Using thin paintbrush and pineapple paint, fill in area on nose and under nose and between mouth as in picture below.

Allow white paint to dry so the black paint will not bleed into the pineapple.

Using the black paint with the Fine pointed bottle cap attached paint the black lines on the face. I found that the best technique is to allow the paint to flow out of the bottle in one thin continuous stream. I practiced this on some extra granny squares I had around.

After all paint has dried, and working in a well ventilated area, turn work over onto a flat surface. With the foam paint brush coat the entire back with the Polyurethane, so that it is thoroughly damp but not pooling or dripping. Allow to dry on a flat surface in a well ventilated area. This will stiffen the worsted weight yarn as stiff as cardboard.

When dry attach plastic ring hanger to back of head with matching yarn to hang project on the door.
